Imo State has made a major advancement in land management with the official launch of the Imo Land Information Service Centre (IMLISC). The modern, fully digital facility was unveiled under the leadership of Governor Hope Uzodimma. Located at the Ministry of Lands, Survey and Physical Planning in Owerri, this new centre is expected to transform land governance, strengthen investor confidence, and protect citizens from fraudulent land transactions.
Speaking at the unveiling, Governor Uzodimma described the initiative as “a critical step towards ensuring transparency, security, and efficiency in land administration.” He added, “Our goal is to make Imo State a safe and attractive destination for genuine property investors, both at home and in the diaspora.”
The IMLISC features advanced technology that enables services such as e-land searches, land recertification, ownership transfers, and the issuance of Certificates of Occupancy (C of O). These digital processes will ensure faster, more transparent, and reliable land transactions, putting an end to the manual methods that often caused delays and encouraged fraud.
The new centre is seen as a major boost for the real estate sector, business community, and property investors. With clear documentation, verified data, and efficient processes now in place, entrepreneurs and developers can operate with confidence. “Gone are the days of uncertainty and back-and-forth struggles when dealing with land matters in Imo State,” Governor Uzodimma assured.
Beyond improving the ease of doing business, the digital system is also expected to increase internally generated revenue (IGR) for the state. Accurate records and traceable land transactions will reduce disputes and enhance revenue collection, which will be channelled into essential sectors like infrastructure, education, and healthcare.
The IMLISC will also act as a centre for resolving land disputes quickly and fairly. With a data-driven approach, it will support proper urban planning and responsible land use policies that benefit all residents.
