The Industrial Training Fund (ITF) has once again demonstrated its dedication to empowering Nigerian youths through education and skills development. During a well-attended ceremony held at the newly renamed ITF Model School in Jos, the Director-General and Chief Executive of ITF, Dr. Afiz Oluwatoyin Ogun, presented scholarships to exceptional students while unveiling a new initiative aimed at technical and vocational excellence.
The event, which attracted parents, students, and staff, was marked by excitement and applause as four graduates from the last academic session were awarded full educational scholarships. The scholarships, covering tuition, accommodation, feeding, and books, were presented to celebrate their outstanding academic performance.
In addition, five students from the 2025 graduating class who excelled in the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examinations received similar scholarship packages. Their achievements, according to Dr. Ogun, represent the high academic standard that ITF aims to promote across the country.
While addressing the audience, Dr. Ogun expressed his pride in the beneficiaries and assured that ITF remains committed to supporting talented students. He stated, “We are building a future powered by skills, knowledge, and innovation. These scholarships are not just rewards, they are strategic investments in the future of Nigeria.”
A key moment during the occasion was the formal unveiling of the ITF Model Skills Academy, Jos, which is scheduled to begin operations in September 2025. The academy will run a two-year, after-school and holiday programme designed to provide practical training for students in Junior Secondary 1 (JS1) and Senior Secondary 1 (SS1).
The vocational training will focus on high-demand areas such as Fashion Design, Monogramming, Culinary Arts, Welding, and Information and Communication Technology (ICT). The ICT training will cover essential fields like Artificial Intelligence (AI) Programming and Cybersecurity, equipping students with in-demand tech skills that are vital in today’s global economy.
Dr. Ogun also revealed that students who complete the programme will earn international certifications and have opportunities to participate in World Skills Competitions, boosting their chances of becoming globally recognised professionals.
The Director-General further announced the introduction of a business incubation programme to support exceptional trainees. According to him, the programme will help young people transition from trainees to successful entrepreneurs, a move that will reduce unemployment and promote self-reliance among Nigerian youths.
“The goal is clear: to provide holistic education that prepares our children for both academic and vocational success. With the Model Skills Academy, we are laying the groundwork for a more empowered and self-reliant generation,” Dr. Ogun added.
