June 25, 2025 – The Katsina State Government has commenced the distribution of free medical supplies to secondary health facilities across all 34 Local Government Areas of the state.
The flag-off ceremony was held at the premises of the Katsina State Drugs and Medical Supplies Agency (DMSA) and was led by the State Commissioner of Health, Hon. Musa Adamu Funtua.
Speaking at the event, the Commissioner reaffirmed the administration’s focus on healthcare improvement, especially for the less privileged. “Governor Dikko Radda remains committed to enhancing the health and wellbeing of our people,” he said. “We have made significant efforts to improve healthcare delivery across Katsina.”
Hon. Funtua also called on hospitals benefiting from the scheme to manage the distributed commodities properly to ensure they serve their purpose effectively.
He praised the Executive Secretary of DMSA, Pharm. Fatima Shua’ibu, for her dedication and coordination in the entire supply process.
Pharm. Fatima Shua’ibu explained that the government provided the necessary funding for the purchase of essential drugs. She stated that these medical items would be distributed to hospitals completely free of charge.
“The scheme covers essential medical items including anti-malarial drugs, delivery and cesarean section packs, dialysis support, and antenatal care materials,” she added.
She further revealed that free treatment under this scheme would be provided for children under five years, pregnant women, and victims of road traffic accidents.
Katsina Post reports that the first phase of the free healthcare distribution has started with four health facilities: General Hospital Katsina, General Hospital Musawa, Turai Yar’Adua Maternity Hospital, and Turai Yar’Adua Children Hospital.
