June 27, 2025 – The Governor of Sokoto State, Ahmed Aliyu, has approved the conversion of the May 2025 salaries, which were paid ahead of the Eid-el-Adha celebration, into a loan to be repaid in three monthly installments. This was announced in a statement signed by the Press Secretary to the Governor, Abubakar Bawa, and made available to newsmen in Sokoto.
Gov. Aliyu explained that the decision was taken to reduce financial hardship for workers, especially considering the expenses many faced during the Sallah celebrations.
“I am aware that many of our workers are still facing financial challenges due to the expenses incurred during the Sallah festivities. This measure is intended to support them by easing immediate financial strain, allowing for repayment in three convenient monthly deductions,” the Governor stated.
He expressed hope that the move would positively impact the lives of civil servants and their families.
In addition to this, Gov. Aliyu has also directed the immediate payment of June 2025 salaries to all categories of workers, including those in the state civil service, local government employees, LGEA workers, and pensioners. The payment is scheduled to commence from Monday, June 30th, 2025.
The Governor assured workers of his administration’s commitment to improving the civil service for better service delivery. He called on civil servants to show greater dedication, discipline, and punctuality as a way of appreciating government efforts.
“I urge all our workers to reciprocate the government’s gestures by showing greater dedication, discipline, and punctuality at work,” he said.
