August 11, 2025 – Bauchi State, through the Bureau for ICT and Digital Economy (BICTDE), in partnership with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), will host a Data Protection Awareness Campaign on August 13, 2025.
The event will follow the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between NDPC and the Bauchi State Government, described as a major step toward strengthening data governance and privacy practices.
Speaking on the development, officials noted that the collaboration reflects a strong commitment to safeguarding personal data in line with national and international standards. “This partnership is about building trust and ensuring that the rights of our citizens are protected in the digital age,” a representative said.
The campaign will focus on educating government employees, empowering citizens, and promoting cybersecurity best practices. It will be led jointly by BICTDE and NDPC, targeting participants from both public and private sectors.
A short but impactful training session will be held during the programme, aimed at equipping attendees with practical knowledge on principles, best practices, and the legal frameworks guiding data protection.
Organisers explained that this approach is intended to reduce risks of data breaches, improve compliance with regulatory requirements, and encourage responsible handling of information.
“This initiative will help create a secure and digitally empowered environment for our people and businesses,” the statement added.
The Bauchi State Government emphasised that the event is part of broader efforts to align the state’s digital policies with global cybersecurity and data privacy standards.
