The Honourable Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, has announced a new partnership aimed at boosting women’s economic empowerment and preserving Nigeria’s cultural heritage.
Speaking during the visit of the Tikera Africa team, led by Bayo Omoboriowo, she highlighted the shared vision to “preserve Nigeria’s artisanal heritage while transforming the lives of women.”
The meeting focused on strategies to empower women artisans through access to tools, funding, and technology.
According to the Minister, discussions also centred on creating opportunities for women to showcase their craft both locally and globally, building networks that open markets, and shaping policies to protect their rights while expanding access to finance.
The visit culminated in the unveiling of a women-led artisanship initiative described as “a landmark moment for women’s economic empowerment and cultural preservation.”
“This movement takes our women from skill to scale, opening pathways to global markets and sustainable livelihoods,” Sulaiman-Ibrahim stated. “Together, we will ensure they remain both custodians of our culture and architects of their economic future.”
The initiative is expected to drive sustainable business growth for women, enhance cultural tourism, and create long-term economic opportunities, aligning with national development goals and the preservation of Nigeria’s rich heritage.
