August 19, 2025 – The Government of Oyo State has announced the commencement of applications for the 2025 batch of Justice of the Peace (JP) conferment.

The notice, signed by the Chair of OYSJP, called on members of the public to apply for the honorary title.

According to the statement, “A JP is a respected community leader appointed by the State to support justice delivery, maintain peace, and assist in civic responsibilities.”

The Government explained that the conferment is aimed at recognising community leaders who contribute to governance and peacebuilding in Oyo State.

Functions & Benefits of a JP:
i. Attestation and endorsement of documents
ii. Community mediation and dispute resolution
iii. Voluntary support in minor judicial and civic matters
iv. Elevated public recognition and leadership status
v. Eligibility for appointment to certain State boards and tribunals
vi. A chance to contribute meaningfully to governance and justice reform

The role is described as ideal for religious leaders, professionals, business owners, and community influencers who want to play a stronger part in civic engagement and leadership in Oyo State.

How to apply:
1. Pay ₦10,000 for the application form to:
Account Name: OYSG
Bank: Eco Bank
Account Number: 2282100503
2. Present your payment receipt at Room 14, Account Section, Ministry of Justice. Secretariat, Ibadan.
3. Proceed to Room 1 of the Mediation Centre, Ministry of Justice, to collect your application form and obtain further details.

Screening will take place on the 21st of August, 2025, at the Mediation Center Conference Room, Ministry of Justice, Secretariat, Ibadan, starting from 9:00 am.

Applicants are to come with:
a. Valid ID Card
b. Passport
c. Payment Receipt
d. Other necessary documents

The conferment fee of ₦100,000 is to be paid after successful selection. The Government added that “All those who have paid and collected the application form since 2024 will also be included in the current exercise. No need to reapply.”
