Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, today attended the graduation and send-off ceremony of the pioneer class of the Abia Leadership Academy, Cohort One, at Government College Umuahia.
The programme, which brought together young Abians aged between 16 and 20, marked the end of a seven-day intensive leadership training aimed at shaping their minds, sharpening their values, and preparing them for future responsibilities.
In his speech titled “A New Pedestal,” Governor Otti praised the discipline and energy of the graduates, describing them as a sign of a brighter future for Abia. He said, “Their energy, discipline, and enthusiasm offer a reassuring glimpse into the kind of future we can build together in Abia.”
The governor emphasized the state government’s commitment to raising a generation of leaders who would uphold empathy, integrity, and good governance. He stressed, “We are committed to getting it right with the younger generation. Otherwise, our wider development efforts will be in jeopardy.”
Governor Otti highlighted that this was only the beginning of a larger leadership development plan. According to him, the administration will soon deploy 1,000 participants across secondary and tertiary institutions to share their knowledge and inspire other students. He added that the long-term goal is to train thousands more in the coming years.
The governor also revealed that the state is reviewing the school curriculum to align it with current realities, stressing that true transformation begins in the classroom.
He extended special appreciation to the Organising Committee of the Abia Leadership Academy for their efforts in making the programme a success.
Congratulating the participants, Governor Otti said, “You have earned your place through hard work and strength of character. But let me remind you, let your vision rise higher than your ego. Stay humble, stay hungry, and keep building.”
