Niger State Independent Electoral Commission (NSIEC) has alerted the public to a fake job advertisement circulating on social media, which claimed to be from the commission.

The message, which went viral, alleged that NSIEC was calling for applications from interested persons to serve as ad-hoc staff in the forthcoming local government council election scheduled for 1st November, 2025.

The false advert stated that applicants must hold at least a First Degree, HND, NCE, Diploma, or an equivalent qualification, and were to submit a written application letter with a passport photograph attached.

It also listed positions including Returning Officer, Supervisors, Presiding Officer, Assistant Presiding Officer, and Poll Clerk. The advert further directed that applications should be submitted to the Local Government Electoral Officer on or before 30th September, 2025.

Reacting to the misleading publication, the commission clarified that the notice was not from them. In a statement, NSIEC said, “The commission wishes to emphatically notify the public that the message did not emanate from the commission, neither was the persons whose phone numbers appeared on the message, one Musa Ancestor, delegated or directed to issue such announcement.”

The commission urged members of the public to treat the advert as fake news. NSIEC assured that in line with its transparent policy, the public will be properly informed whenever there is an official recruitment of ad-hoc staff.
