June 25, 2025 – The Government of Abia State has approved a one-time transport and logistics allowance of N25,000 for each newly recruited teacher who participated in the recent orientation programme organised by the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education. This move is designed to support and encourage new entrants into the teaching profession and ease their transition process.

The approval was granted by the Executive Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti (OFR), as part of ongoing efforts to reform the education sector and improve teacher welfare across the state.

The announcement was made by the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Elder Goodluck Chinedu Ubochi, through an official press statement released in Umuahia. He stated that the allowance would serve as a practical support to help the new teachers settle in and contribute meaningfully to the development of the education system.

According to the Ministry, all eligible teachers are required to submit their bank details through the official recruitment portal, accessible via the Ministry’s website at www.mobse-abiastategov.ng, to enable prompt payment of the approved stipend.

The orientation programme, which recently concluded, covered key professional development areas, including teaching ethics, classroom management, curriculum alignment, and other relevant topics aimed at improving educational standards.

Reacting to the development, a former Commissioner for Education in the state, Chief Richard Harrison, described the gesture as “a positive step towards motivating teachers and strengthening the state’s commitment to quality education delivery.”

Education stakeholders have also commended the initiative, noting that supporting teachers with allowances, incentives, and welfare packages is key to achieving sustainable improvements in teaching quality and student outcomes across Abia State.
