The Adamawa State Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) Project has officially commenced the distribution of Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) cards across several local government areas, beginning with Yola North. The initiative is designed to empower adolescent girls and boost school attendance by providing financial support to eligible households.
In Yola North, the distribution exercise took place at General Murtala Ramat College (GMMC) and attracted thousands of beneficiaries and caregivers from across the area. The Project Coordinator, Engr. Siddiki Liman, alongside members of the State Project Implementation Unit (SPIU), addressed the large gathering and emphasized the government’s dedication to the program.
“This is only the beginning of the exercise,” Engr. Liman said. “We are committed to a transparent, fair, and thorough distribution process that will reach all the 21 LGAs in Adamawa State.”
After the launch in Yola North, the AGILE team moved to Yola South, Lamurde, and Shelleng LGAs. Venues for the exercise included Aliyu Musdafa College in Yola South, Government Day Secondary School Lamurde, and Government Day Secondary School Shelleng. The next phase of the program is scheduled to hold at Government Day Secondary School Numan.
At every location, SPIU officials interacted directly with beneficiaries, assuring them that the project would remain transparent and impactful over the long term. Many caregivers and beneficiaries expressed gratitude, describing the support as timely and beneficial to their households.
“We thank the government and AGILE for this support,” said a caregiver in Shelleng. “We will use the funds wisely to support our girls’ education.”
The process, however, faced logistical challenges due to the high number of beneficiaries. In some LGAs, the exercise lasted two to three days, and in certain areas, distribution could not be completed on the scheduled dates.
Despite these challenges, the AGILE team expressed determination to continue until all eligible households receive their CCT cards. The Conditional Cash Transfer Program is expected to provide financial relief to families, reduce barriers to girls’ education, and strengthen the state’s investment in human capital development.
