AfDB opens 2025 young professionals program application

The African Development Bank Group (AfDB) has officially opened applications for its 2025 Young Professionals Program (YPP). The position, graded PL6 and numbered 50067362, is located in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, or any other African location determined by the Bank. The vacancy was posted on October 31, 2025, and will close on November 30, 2025.

Established in 1964, the AfDB is Africa’s leading development institution, promoting inclusive and sustainable growth across the continent. With 81 member states, including 54 in Africa, the Bank’s mission is to deliver financial and technical support for projects that significantly reduce poverty. Its Ten-Year Strategy (2024–2033) focuses on four main areas: Unlock Africa’s Capital Power, Rebuild Africa’s Financial Sovereignty, Turn Demographics into a Dividend, and Build Resilient Infrastructure.

The YPP is a key part of the Bank’s Talent Management Framework designed to develop a new generation of leaders. According to the AfDB, “The Young Professionals Program is a diversity-focused talent development program, to create a leadership pipeline and workforce of the future.” The program offers young professionals the opportunity to contribute to Africa’s growth while gaining valuable technical, leadership, and professional skills.

Participants will undergo three rotations across different Bank complexes over three years. “Rotation 1 will focus on applied knowledge, Rotation 2 will focus on stretching and learning, while Rotation 3 will prepare candidates for graduation,” the Bank stated. The program also includes mentorship, coaching, and capacity development through the Young Professionals Learning Faculty.

For the 2025 intake, AfDB will prioritize skills in information technology management, artificial intelligence, agriculture, human capital, financial management, investment management, risk management, and governance. Eligible applicants must be citizens of AfDB member countries, not older than 32 years by November 30, 2025, and hold a master’s degree relevant to the Bank’s work. The AfDB said, “Female candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.”
