The Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation has opened applications for the sixth cohort of its AIG Public Leaders Programme (AIG PLP), a six-month executive education initiative aimed at strengthening public sector leadership across Africa.
The flagship programme is delivered by the University of Oxford’s Blavatnik School of Government and is designed to equip high-potential public servants with the tools, networks, and strategic insight needed to drive meaningful reforms within African public institutions.
Applications are now open to qualified public servants from all English-speaking African countries. The application window will close on Sunday, April 12, 2026, while the programme is scheduled to commence in October 2026.
Since it began in 2021, the AIG PLP has built a strong track record of impact. According to the Foundation, alumni have designed and implemented more than 230 reform projects across ministries, departments, and agencies on the continent.
An impact survey also revealed that 62 percent of alumni have either earned promotions or taken on expanded leadership responsibilities after completing the programme. This, the Foundation noted, reflects the programme’s influence on both career growth and institutional performance.
Speaking on the need for the initiative, Ofovwe Aig-Imoukhuede, Executive Vice-Chair of the Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation, said: “Across Africa, the complexity of public sector challenges demands more than good intentions. It requires reformers who understand systems, can navigate institutional realities, and are equipped to implement sustainable change. The AIG PLP is designed to meet this need.”
One example of impact highlighted by the Foundation is the work of Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, Executive Secretary of Lagos State DSVA and a PLP alumna. She launched a secure self-reporting tool that enables survivors of domestic and sexual abuse to safely document incidents and preserve evidence. Survivors are already accessing support, and the tool helps protect crucial proof until justice can be pursued.
The Foundation noted that this is one of over 230 reform projects being implemented across sectors including healthcare, finance, agriculture, and education. “We are seeing proof every day that investing in the capacity and leadership potential of people delivers the kind of transformation that policy alone cannot achieve,” Aig-Imoukhuede added.
The AIG PLP follows a blended learning model that combines online sessions with an intensive residential module. The programme is offered at no cost to selected participants, as the Foundation covers tuition, accommodation, and feeding during the residential component.
Participants gain access to world-class faculty from the University of Oxford and receive training on core public sector issues such as negotiating in the public interest, strengthening public organisations, and upholding integrity in public life.
The curriculum ends with a capstone reform project, allowing participants to apply their knowledge to real challenges within their institutions. Interested candidates are encouraged to apply early through the Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation website.
