The Akwa Ibom State Universal Basic Education Board (AKSUBEB) has called on the state government to approve the recruitment of qualified ICT teachers ahead of the September 2025 opening of the newly built Smart School in Obio Akpa, Oruk Anam LGA.

The Executive Chairman of AKSUBEB, Dr. Anietie Etuk, made this known during a courtesy visit by the Clan Head of Obio Akpa, Obong Christian Benjamin Essien. Dr. Etuk stated, “We appreciate the Federal Government and UBEC for the Smart School project. Governor Umo Eno’s prompt payment of counterpart funding helped us benefit from this national education improvement initiative.”

The Smart School, developed by the Federal Government through the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), is designed to provide digital skills and modern education to students as part of efforts to improve basic education in Nigeria.
