Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, rolled out financial grants worth N250 million and donated nine vehicles to 540 beneficiaries across Ikot Abasi, Mkpat Enin, and Eastern Obolo Local Government Areas. The Town Square Meeting, held at the Ikot Abasi Local Government Council ground, was part of the Governor’s ongoing state consultation tour and empowerment drive.

According to the official brochure, 234 persons received N117,450,000 under the ARISE Traders Grant, a popular scheme designed to promote entrepreneurship and support micro businesses. Another N67,500,000 was disbursed to 96 farmers under the ARISE Farmers Scheme, a vital initiative that supports agricultural productivity and food security in the region.

For local business owners, the event brought relief and joy as 195 individuals received working equipment through the ARISE Equipment Support Scheme. Items distributed included generators, sewing machines, hairdressing kits, and barbing tools — all geared towards promoting self-employment and small-scale business growth, a key area in job creation.

The financial support also extended to six entrepreneurs who each received a N5 million grant, totalling N30 million under the ARISE MSME Grant. In addition to the cash disbursements, Governor Eno handed over three cars and six mini buses to selected beneficiaries to further ease their business operations and transportation needs.

Speaking during the ceremony, Governor Eno expressed deep emotional connection with the Ikot Abasi Federal Constituency, describing the area as his in-laws’ home.

“We are not just expressing gratitude with words, we are demonstrating it through actions and projects,” he said. “We are building schools, providing water, constructing roads, giving grants, and supporting small businesses across the state. These are things that have never happened at this scale before, and everyone — regardless of party — is benefiting.”

Governor Eno made it clear that the empowerment programme is open to all residents, with no bias based on political party or background.

“We are making sure that even the child of a common man without a godfather can benefit. Names of beneficiaries and the amounts disbursed have been made public. It is transparent and inclusive,” he stated.

The Governor added that four federal constituencies remain in the state-wide consultation tour. He emphasised that this initiative allows citizens to directly contribute to the state’s budget planning process.

“We must work together — PDP or APC — because we are already in the minority. If we are united, we can get what we truly deserve,” he said.

He also reaffirmed his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging the people to stay hopeful. “Believe in us, believe in the President. The future is bright.”

Hensek Integrated Services’ Managing Director, Mr. Uwem Okoko, praised the Governor’s dedication. “Governor Umo Eno is the best performing governor in Nigeria,” he said.

Also, Mr. Stephen Ntukekpo, APC Chairman in Akwa Ibom State, said, “Our solidarity is unshakeable. This Governor has shown character, competence, and intentionality.”
