The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has opened a call for freelance conference interpreters ahead of the final stage of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024. The tournament, which will take place across Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, marks a significant moment for African football, and CAF is seeking top interpreters to support its international communication goals.
This recruitment aims to build a strong database of interpreters who are fluent in French, English, Arabic, Portuguese, or Swahili. According to CAF, “We are ready to lead a new era in African football,” and qualified professionals are invited to play a part in that transformation.
Freelance interpreters will be required to deliver simultaneous or consecutive interpretation during match press conferences, official meetings, and side events. Contracts will be awarded to selected applicants for a one-month consultancy.
Requirements
Candidates must have a diploma in conference interpreting from a recognized institution and reside professionally in either Kenya, Tanzania, or Uganda. Additional knowledge in football or sports terminology is considered an advantage. Applicants should be proficient in at least two of the official languages, either as an A or B language.
CAF outlines that interpreters must show excellent language comprehension, strong communication skills, accurate sentence construction, and good diction. Interpreters must also be open to travel and learning opportunities.
This opportunity aligns with high-paying jobs in international organizations and offers a unique chance to work closely with an internationally respected sports body.
The deadline for applications is Sunday, June 15, 2025, at 00:00 GMT+3 (Cairo Time).
