Federal University Otuoke in Bayelsa State has announced an internal and external recruitment drive for academic and non-academic positions across multiple faculties and directorates.
The Registrar, Mrs. Andabi Amangi-Edomo, in a statement dated August 8, 2025, said the institution, established in 2011 by an Act of Parliament, now caters to over 17,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students with a workforce of more than 2,351 staff.
“The university was set up to encourage the advancement of learning, and this recruitment process is part of our commitment to sustaining high academic and professional standards,” the Registrar stated.
The vacancies span the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, Nursing Sciences, Medical Laboratory Science, Law, Social Sciences, Science, Management Sciences, Engineering, Education, Humanities, the University Library, Directorate of Legal Services, and Directorate of Public Relations. Available roles include Professor, Reader, Senior Lecturer, Lecturer I and II, Technologist, Clinical Instructor, Medical Laboratory Scientist, Biomedical Engineer, Mortician, Chief Legal Officer, and Deputy Director of Public Relations, among others.
In the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, positions are open for experts in Clinical Physiology, Exercise Physiology, Embryology, Histology, Gross Anatomy, Medical Microbiology, Pharmacology, and other subspecialties.
The Faculty of Nursing Sciences seeks specialists in Mental and Psychiatric Nursing, Medical Surgical Nursing, Community and Public Health Nursing, and Maternal and Child Health Nursing. Medical Laboratory Science roles include Haematology, Blood Transfusion, Immuno-haematology, Chemical Pathology, Medical Microbiology, Parasitology, Immunology, and Histopathology.
The Faculty of Law is hiring in Land Law, Criminal Law, Jurisprudence, and Human Rights Law, while the Faculty of Social Sciences seeks expertise in fields such as Prison and Probationary Services, Community Engagement, Industrial Sociology, Victimology, Penology, Public Administration, Political Economy, and Library Information Science.
In the sciences, opportunities are available in Pure and Applied Mathematics, Cybersecurity, Digital Forensics, Artificial Intelligence, Industrial Biochemistry, Environmental Management, and Environmental Toxicology.
The Faculty of Management Sciences is looking for professionals in Entrepreneurship, Marketing, Procurement and Logistics Management, Human Resource Management, and Finance. For senior academic positions like Professor, Reader, and Senior Lecturer, candidates must hold B.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D. degrees from recognized universities, with 12, 9, and 6 years of teaching and research experience respectively. These applicants must demonstrate the ability to initiate and supervise research projects, show a record of scholarly publications in reputable journals, and meet other requirements outlined in the university’s 2023 Rules and Regulations Governing Conditions of Service of Senior Staff.
The Deputy Director of Public Relations must have a good honours degree in Mass Communication, English Studies, or other relevant fields in the Humanities or Social Sciences, along with membership of the Nigeria Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) and at least 18 years of cognate experience. The Chief Legal Officer requires an LLB, BL, NYSC certificate or exemption, and 15 years of post-service experience.
Specialized roles like Medical Laboratory Scientist, Clinical Instructor, and Technologist require relevant degrees, professional registration, and practice licenses from recognized regulatory bodies such as the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria, Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, NISLT, and COREN.
