The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has opened applications for its 2026/2027 Foreign Postgraduate (Master’s Degree) Scholarship Programme. The scheme is designed to equip young people from the Niger Delta with relevant training and skills to participate effectively in the Federal Government’s local content programme, while also enabling them to specialise in their fields and compete globally across professional disciplines.

The value of the foreign scholarship will be determined based on the prevailing exchange rate of the Naira. The programme is open to suitably qualified applicants who hold relevant Bachelor’s degrees from recognised universities in key disciplines, including Agricultural Sciences and Biotechnology, Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Geosciences, Information Technology and Artificial Intelligence, Medical Sciences, Architecture and Building Technology, and Law.

To be eligible, applicants must originate from the Niger Delta region and possess either a First Class or Second Class Upper Division degree. Candidates must also be under the age of 40. Preference will be given to applicants from oil-producing host communities and local government areas, provided they meet the approved cut-off mark. It is important to note that deferment, change of institution, or change of course will not be permitted under the scheme.

The selection process will begin with an online application submitted through the Commission’s website. Candidates will then be shortlisted based on their academic qualifications, including WASSCE or NECO results, undergraduate degree classification, and proof of local government identification. Shortlisted applicants will proceed to a computer-based test conducted in Rivers State. To advance, candidates must achieve a minimum score of 70 per cent. Those who pass will undergo further shortlisting, followed by a final verification exercise conducted through their Local Government Area and Community Development Committee.

Applications open on March 23, 2026, and will close on April 19, 2026. Interested applicants are required to apply online via www.nddc.gov.ng and upload all necessary documents. These include a recent passport photograph, a local government identification letter, a postgraduate admission letter from a recognised overseas university, relevant academic certificates, and an NYSC discharge or exemption certificate.

Upon successful submission, each applicant will receive a registration number and is advised to print the acknowledgement slip for future reference. Shortlisted candidates will be contacted and invited to participate in the computer-based test.
