August17, 2025 – Kano State has officially begun the screening and distribution of tree seedlings under its Five Million Trees Planting Campaign for 2025. The initiative, led by Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, is designed to create a greener and healthier environment for the state’s residents.
According to the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, all preparations have been completed to ensure the smooth rollout of the program.
“The Government of Kano State is committed to achieving the planting of 5,000,000 trees in 2025,” the ministry announced. The ministry further confirmed that more than 200 organizations have already applied for seedlings, and the screening process is ongoing.
Participation is open to agencies, schools, NGOs, and corporate entities who meet the requirements set by the state. These include attending training sessions and ensuring proper seedling care.
Participation requirements
1. Government Agency / Hukuma
2. Be NGO, community-based group, school, corporate entity or others.
3. Attend training sessions on best practices, seedling handling, and digital tracking tool usage.
4. Get free seedlings and user credentials for the digital Tracking Tool based on your commitment.
5. Ensure at least 90% survival rate through regular watering, mulching, and protection.
6. Hold sensitization sessions and recruit volunteers for tree care and awareness.
The new deadline for applications is not yet disclosed.
