Lagos – August 23, 2025 – The Lagos State government, through the Ministry of Agriculture And Food Systems, has announced the opening of Lagos Agrithon 2025, a competition designed to support agripreneurs and innovators with bold ideas for the future of food and agriculture.
The initiative provides access to a ₦150 million pool, offering agribusiness startups an opportunity to scale their solutions and make real impact in Nigeria’s agricultural sector.
Lagos Agrinnovation Club said, “We’re calling on bold agripreneurs and innovators with fresh ideas to transform Nigeria’s agriculture sector. Apply for a chance to access funding from a ₦150 million pool to scale your solution and drive real impact.”
The programme targets young entrepreneurs who can contribute to solving challenges in the agrifood ecosystem.
Applications are open to those with ideas that fit into priority areas including:
1. Cold chain and storage solutions
2. Climate-smart and sustainable farming practices
3. Smart farming (hydroponics, aeroponics, greenhouse, precision ag)
4. Waste-to-value and circular economy solutions
5. Digital platforms, ag-finance, and market linkage innovations
6. Farm equipment design and local fabrication.
7. Innovative Product Development
8. Any other breakthrough solution improving efficiency, sustainability, or access in agriculture.
Submissions will be evaluated based on:
i. Innovation – Uniqueness and creativity of the solution
ii. Feasibility – Practicality within the Nigerian agricultural context
iii. Scalability – Potential to reach and impact many stakeholders
iv. Supply Chain & Logistics – Solutions for storage, transport, and distribution
v. Sustainability – Alignment with sustainable agricultural practices
vi. Market Viability – Clear business model and market growth potential
vii. Presentation – Clarity, confidence, and effective communication
Eligibility requirements:
Participants must pay attention to the following:
a. Business must be 1+ years with evidence of MVP or verifiable sales.
b. Founder must be aged 18–40 years
c. Open to startups, innovators, and teams working in agribusiness or food systems
d. Must be based in Lagos or have a project impacting Lagos agrifood systems
e. Must be registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC)
f. Must be registered with the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASSRA)
g. Must have an innovative solution addressing a critical challenge in agriculture or food systems
The registration period runs from 23rd August to 8th September 2025 deadline.
