Applications have opened for the MultiChoice Talent Factory (MTF) Academy Program class of 2026, a 12-month fully-sponsored programme designed for aspiring film and television creatives across Africa, with limited slots available annually.

The MultiChoice Talent Factory (MTF) is the MultiChoice Group’s shared-value initiative that exists to educate the next generation of African storytellers and upskill existing African filmmakers to improve the quality of productions across Africa. The programme forms part of MultiChoice’s long-term commitment to making a socio-economic difference by supporting the growth of Africa’s film industries into vibrant economic hubs.

MTF plays a key role alongside government, stakeholders, businesses, and civil society in building sustainable creative industries. The academy prepares students as future business owners who are expected to contribute to building an economy around film and television across the continent.

MTF academies offer a fully funded one-year filmmaking programme that combines classroom learning with hands-on practical experience. The initiative operates four strategically located academies in Johannesburg, South Africa; Nairobi, Kenya; Lusaka, Zambia; and Lagos, Nigeria. Through these centres, MTF provides aspiring filmmakers from 14 African countries with practical training, industry exposure, and access to professional networks needed to compete in the entertainment industry.

The programme curriculum covers a wide range of film modules, including scriptwriting, cinematography, directing, production management, and several post-production specialisations. At the end of the programme, students outside South Africa receive a university-accredited certificate through partner institutions, namely the University of Zambia, Kenyatta University in Kenya, and Pan Atlantic University in Nigeria.

All course facilitators are practicing filmmakers who are well regarded in their respective specialties, allowing students to learn directly from professionals actively working in the industry.

The academy is seeking recent young African graduates who are passionate about storytelling, as well as young creatives interested in contributing meaningfully to local and pan-African television and film. It is also open to individuals who are eager to learn, innovate, collaborate, and help shape the future of screen entertainment across multiple formats and platforms.

Participants in the year-long programme will learn filmmaking by actively making films and developing their skills in film and TV production while working alongside experienced industry professionals on real projects that reflect local African stories.

The application process requires applicants to submit a CV of not more than two pages, a personal motivation letter of not more than 500 words, copies of passport and national identity documents, certified academic certificates and transcripts, proof of residential address, and additional banking details for South Africa applicants only.

The application deadline is 27 February 2026 at 12.00pm.
