The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) has announced the start of the 2025 Annual National Undergraduate Essay Competition (9th Edition).
Now in its ninth edition, the program is described as a flagship academic initiative to promote excellence among undergraduates in Nigeria’s public and private tertiary institutions while raising awareness among young people about the Nigerian content policy.
According to NCDMB, the initiative is aimed at inspiring youths to develop the skills needed to participate effectively in the Nigerian oil and gas industry. “We want to build capacities and competencies that will enable Nigerian youths to create value from the opportunities in the industry,” the Board stated.
The topic for the 2025 competition is ‘Sustaining Local Content Policies In The Transitioning Oil And Gas Industry’. The first prize winner will receive N1,000,000, while the top ten finalists will each receive a laptop.
Submission of entries opened in August 1, 2025.

The award ceremony is scheduled for 26th September 2025 at the NCDMB headquarters in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
The Board also noted that the program remains a key part of its strategy to prepare Nigerian youths for opportunities in the evolving oil and gas sector.
