The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) has officially opened applications for massive recruitment for academic and non-teaching vacancies. According to the Registrar and Secretary to Council, Dr. Mrs. C. N. Nnebedum, the university is seeking “qualified candidates to fill vacant roles across various faculties and administrative departments” in accordance with Advertisement Ref. No. UNP/SSR.37/06/25.
In a statement issued from the Office of the Registrar, the university confirmed that the following faculties are included in the recruitment drive: Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Biological Sciences, Faculty of Business Administration, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Basic Clinical Sciences, Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Environmental Studies, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Physical Sciences, Faculty of the Social Sciences, Faculty of Vocational and Technical Education, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.
Candidates applying for academic positions such as Professor, Reader, Lecturer I, Lecturer II, and Assistant Lecturer must meet stringent requirements. For example, the position of Professor in Quantity Surveying requires B.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D. degrees, registration with the Quantity Surveyors Registration Board of Nigeria, membership in the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors, and at least ten years of experience in teaching and research.
Similarly, for the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, the role of Professor or Reader requires a Bachelor of Pharmacy or Pharm.D., Master’s and Ph.D. degrees in relevant fields, and current registration with the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria. Lecturer II positions across different pharmaceutical departments, such as Clinical Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, and Pharmacognosy, require a minimum of a Pharmacy degree plus a Master’s degree.
In the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, the university is inviting applications for Lecturer II, Senior Lecturer, and Assistant Lecturer roles across departments like Veterinary Anatomy, Pathology, Pharmacology, and Microbiology. The qualifications range from postgraduate degrees to years of teaching and industrial experience, along with research publication records.
The Nnamdi Azikiwe Library is also recruiting Assistant Lecturers with Master’s degrees in Library and Information Science, alongside NYSC discharge certificates.
Numerous non-teaching vacancies are also advertised. These include roles such as Senior Nursing Officer, Nurse Tutor, Administrative Officer, Accountant, Medical Laboratory Scientist, Engineer, Data Processing Officer, Programme System Analyst, and more.
For example, candidates applying for Senior Nursing Officer (CONHESS 09) must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, be a Registered Nurse and Midwife, and have at least six years of post-qualification experience. A Computer/Network Engineer I must have a degree in Computer Science or related discipline and at least two years of experience, with professional certifications considered an added advantage.
Other positions include Programme System Analyst II, Confidential Secretary, Public Relations Officer, Procurement Officer, Medical Officer, Clerical Officer, Laboratory Assistant, and Data Entry Officer, among others.
Each role requires varying levels of academic and professional qualifications, with emphasis on relevant degrees, NYSC certificates, and applicable certifications. Dr. Nnebedum emphasized that all positions would be filled in line with the university’s Academic Appointment Guidelines known as the “Yellow Book.”

The university confirmed that all applications must be submitted in both hard copy and electronic formats.
“All applicants must submit 25 (twenty-five) copies of their application,” the announcement reads. Each application should be accompanied by a detailed Curriculum Vitae (CV) and photocopies of every certificate claimed. The university emphasized that all information must follow a strict order, to ensure proper processing.

The university also reminded applicants that Referee Reports and the NYSC Certificate or Exemption Letter must be submitted under confidential cover. All hard copies of the application materials should be addressed and sent to the Registrar, with the desired post clearly marked on the envelope, such as “Professor”.Electronic submissions are also required. The university specified that a digital copy of each application should be sent to: personnel.unn@unn.edu.ng.
Applications must reach the Registrar not later than three (3) weeks from the date of this advertisement.
