Trending now is the Academic Staff Union of Universities’ (ASUU) response to a Facebook user, ChiLLer Logic Daniel, who questioned whether the union’s goals truly benefit students.
The comment from Daniel read, “With all these goals, which one will benefit the students y’all claim to be fighting for always?”
In response, ASUU acknowledged the concern, saying, “Thank you for your question @ChiLLer Logic Daniel; it’s a valid one.”
The union explained that every goal it pursues is designed to improve the education system for students. According to ASUU, “Every goal ASUU fights for is ultimately for the benefit of the students, whether it’s better funding, improved infrastructure, or fair working conditions for lecturers.”
The statement added that when universities are properly funded, students learn in well-equipped labs and classrooms, have access to updated libraries, and are taught by motivated lecturers who are not distracted by salary delays or poor working conditions.
ASUU emphasized, “We don’t fight for pay alone; we fight for a system where Nigerian students can compete globally without being handicapped by a broken educational structure.”
The union concluded that if issues in the sector are ignored, “the decline continues; and it’s the students who suffer most.”
