ASUU Issues Strike Bulletin No. 2, Updates Members on Negotiation Progress

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has released Strike Bulletin No. 2 to update members on the ongoing warning strike and the state of discussions with the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN).

According to the bulletin addressed “To All ASUU Members,” the National Strike Coordinating Committee (NSCC) extended fraternal greetings and recalled the 14-day ultimatum earlier given to the Federal Government for the conclusion and implementation of the renegotiated 2009 FGN/ASUU Agreement. The union stated that the government’s failure to address these demands led to the activation of the current warning strike.

“The government, through its agents, has returned to the negotiation table,” the bulletin noted, adding that some notable Nigerians have joined efforts to find lasting solutions to the impasse.

The NSCC, in its meeting held on Saturday, 18th October 2025, at the National Secretariat, reviewed developments around the ongoing strike and outlined key observations.

First, ASUU members across branches were praised for their commitment to the implementation of the National Executive Council’s (NEC) resolution of 28th September 2025 regarding the warning strike.

Second, the government’s Renegotiation Team, led by Alhaji Yayale Ahmed, was said to have presented documented responses to the union’s demands and made some offers.

Third, ASUU noted that relevant Senate Committees have been informed about the union’s demands, and meetings have been held between the committees and ASUU leadership where some decisions were reached.

The bulletin further mentioned that progress is being made in certain areas, including the release of third-party deductions, arrears of promotions, mainstreaming of Earned Academic Allowances (EAA), issues around the confiscation of UNIABUJA land, and the victimization of members in Kogi State University (KSU), Lagos State University (LASU), and the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO).

ASUU added that engagements are continuing on all aspects of the draft renegotiated 2009 FGN-ASUU Agreement, guided by the principles of Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

The NSCC commended the resilience and courage of members, urging them to “remain united and steadfast in the few days ahead.”

It also reminded members that “the Branch Chairperson remains the only reliable source of information at all times” and encouraged them to attend branch congress meetings promptly.
