Bauchi State Government has started local production of exercise books and chalk for public schools as part of efforts to improve education quality and promote self-reliance. The production is taking place at the Bauchi State Education Resource Centre (ERC).
The State Commissioner for Education, Hon. Muhammed Lawal, announced this on Friday during an inspection visit to the facility. He explained that the initiative is not only focused on producing essential school materials but also on rebranding textbooks to enhance their quality and make them more appealing to students.
“Today marks a significant milestone as exercise books are now being produced locally in Bauchi State under the supervision of the Ministry of Education and with the full support of His Excellency, Governor Bala Mohammed,” Lawal said. He described the move as a major step away from depending on external vendors who often deliver substandard materials.
“There is no need to import these items. By producing them in-house, we are cutting out unqualified contractors and ensuring our students receive quality educational materials,” he added.
Lawal also revealed that the production centre is part of the administration’s plan to reform the education sector. He noted that there are plans to expand production beyond Bauchi State to meet the needs of other states and generate additional revenue for the government.
“Once local demand is met, we will explore export opportunities for our chalk and other materials. This initiative has strong economic prospects,” he stated.
The Director of the Education Resource Centre, Mr. Kabiru Ahmed, praised the workers at the facility for their hard work and commitment to supporting the government’s education reform agenda. He emphasized that their dedication is vital to achieving the state’s vision for improved education.
