August 13, 2025 – Bauchi State has hosted a Data Protection Awareness Training for civil servants and selected citizens, organized by the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) in collaboration with the Bureau for ICT and Digital Economy (BICTDE).

The event followed the recent signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between NDPC and the Bauchi State Government, aimed at strengthening knowledge on data privacy and protection regulations.

The training was designed to help participants understand their roles in safeguarding personal and institutional information. According to the NDPC, the initiative focused on the principles of responsible data handling, the consequences of non-compliance, and best practices for ensuring information security across public and private sectors.

Speaking during the program, an NDPC representative said, “Our goal is to empower citizens and government workers with the knowledge and tools they need to protect sensitive data in today’s digital world.”

The BICTDE emphasized that the training reflects Bauchi State’s dedication to building a digitally responsible society. The agency noted that the sessions offered practical guidance to promote ethical data management and align with national data protection goals.

Officials highlighted that the state is working to position itself as a model for digital governance. “Data protection is not just a legal requirement; it is a foundation for trust, transparency, and effective service delivery,” a BICTDE official stated.

By investing in such capacity-building programs, Bauchi State aims to ensure that government institutions and the general public are equipped to meet the demands of a growing digital economy while maintaining strong information security standards.
