Borno Gov Zulum releases N3.4bn for 301 students studying abroad

September 17, 2025 – Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has approved the release of over ₦3.4 billion to support 301 Borno students studying abroad in China, India, Malaysia, and Egypt.

The Executive Secretary of the Borno State Scholarship Board, Dr. Bala Isa, disclosed this during a press briefing in Maiduguri. He explained that the funds, totaling ₦3,419,356,654.43, will cover tuition fees, accommodation, medical insurance, residence permits, visa extensions, and a three-month upkeep allowance for the students.

According to him, the governor’s gesture shows strong commitment to education and human capital development in Borno State. He also praised the efforts of the Commissioner for Education, Engr. Lawan Abba Wakilbe, alongside the staff of the Board, for their dedication to ensuring the success of the program.

Speaking on behalf of the students, the National President of NUBOSS, Abdullahi Ahmadu Umara, expressed appreciation to the governor. He described Zulum as “ever ready to transform educational narratives in the state.” He further commended the Commissioner, referring to him as “The Architect of Modern Education,” and extended gratitude to Dr. Isa for his support. He assured that both students at home and abroad remain grateful for the intervention.

Dr. Isa, while addressing the beneficiaries, urged them to remain focused on their studies, be law-abiding, and return with the knowledge and skills required to contribute to building a new Borno State.
