Women and youth agripreneurs in Northern Nigeria now have an opportunity to access business support and non-repayable smart incentives through the RISE programme.
The initiative, known as RISE (Resilient and Inclusive Agrifood Systems Empowering Women and Youth in Nigeria), is inviting applications from entrepreneurs operating within the groundnut, maize, rice and soybean value chains across Bauchi, Kaduna and Kano States.
The programme is designed to support Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) through business development services and smart incentive opportunities aimed at strengthening climate-smart agriculture, agro-processing and inclusive agribusiness growth.
According to the organisers, women and youth are strongly encouraged to apply.
Who Can Apply
The call is open to:
- Women-owned or women-led MSMEs
- Youth-owned or youth-led MSMEs
- Male-owned businesses where at least 30 percent of staff and/or leadership are women, or where the business directly serves women and youth
The programme targets agribusinesses involved in:
- Rice
- Maize
- Soybean
- Groundnut
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants are expected to meet the following conditions before applying:
- Business or cooperative must be registered
- Minimum of two years of operation
- At least two employees
- Commitment to climate-smart practices and gender inclusion
The organisers noted that the programme focuses on businesses capable of creating impact within Nigeria’s agricultural ecosystem while promoting sustainability and inclusive participation.
Smart Incentive Opportunities
Qualified MSMEs will be considered for one of two non-repayable smart awards under the programme.
Matching Award
This category targets MSMEs engaged in:
- Agro-processing
- Commodity aggregation
- Service provision
- Technology supply
- Distribution
Under this support window, RISE will cover up to 50 percent of the investment cost, while beneficiaries will contribute the remaining 50 percent either in cash or assets.
Circular Economy Award
This category is designed for MSMEs working in:
- Low-emission technologies
- Waste recycling
- Climate-smart agri-processing
The support under this category is non-repayable and performance-based, providing incentives for businesses adopting environmentally sustainable agricultural solutions.
Target States
The programme is specifically targeted at agripreneurs operating in:
- Bauchi State
- Kaduna State
- Kano State
The initiative is expected to strengthen agribusiness value chains in the three states while expanding opportunities for women and youth participation in agriculture and food systems.
