The Dakiz Human Development and Empowerment Initiative (DHDEI) has selected 264 beneficiaries to participate in the first batch of its 2026 Ilaje Youth Empowerment Programme, with training scheduled to begin on Saturday, April 18, 2026.
The selection followed a screening exercise conducted by the organisation, where 304 applicants were assessed from a total of 467 applications received for the programme. According to DHDEI, the successful candidates were chosen after what it described as a transparent and merit-based evaluation process aimed at identifying applicants ready to commit to the training.
The beneficiaries will undergo skill acquisition training spanning between six months and two years, depending on their chosen vocational paths. The programme is designed to equip participants with practical skills that can improve employability, support entrepreneurship, and promote economic independence among youths in Ilaje.
Parents of the selected beneficiaries welcomed the announcement, expressing appreciation to DHDEI for sustaining the initiative and expanding access to free vocational training opportunities in the community. Many described the programme as a critical intervention in addressing youth unemployment and limited access to technical skills development.
Speaking after the screening, Mr. Adesoji Daniel Feyijimi praised the applicants for their orderly conduct during the selection process, noting that their discipline and patience reflected strong commitment to the programme.
DHDEI said the latest batch underscores its ongoing investment in youth development and community empowerment, as the organisation continues to position skill-based education as a tool for reducing poverty and fostering long-term economic growth in Ilaje and surrounding areas.
