August 15, 2025 – Reports are circulating widely on social media, particularly Facebook, claiming that the Department of State Services (DSS) is currently recruiting Officers and other ranks.
According to several online posts, the agency is receiving handwritten applications at its offices nationwide, with thousands of users sharing the same claim.
At the time of this report, the DSS has not issued any public statement or disclaimer to confirm or debunk the ongoing information.
This absence of official communication has left many wondering if the recruitment exercise is indeed taking place. “As such, the reports may be true,” a source familiar with the matter stated.
Qualifications requirements:
The alleged requirements include:
a. a BSc degree, with at least five credits in O’Level results, including English language, obtained in a single sitting
b. Applicants with Degrees or HND must have a minimum of lower second class (2.2) or above
c. For females, the requirement specifies that they must be single
d. A minimum height of 1.60m
e. Other ranks must be between 18 and 27 years old, while senior officer applicants (Degree/HND holders) must not exceed 30 years
f. All officer applicants are also expected to present an NYSC certificate
g. Candidates are expected to be willing to submit handwritten applications at their state command offices
According to the claims, interested applicants have until August 26, 2025, to submit their applications in their state of origin.
How to apply:
The application process, according to circulating reports, requires interested individuals to submit their documents to the nearest DSS office in their state of origin. The application must be addressed to:

The application must be handwritten and should include:
i. Phone number
ii. National ID card number such as NIN
iii. Birth certificate

Handwritten applications should be accompanied by a CV, with a NIN slip or card attached. Applications are expected to close on August 26, 2025, while entry examinations are reportedly scheduled for August 30, 2025.
Applicants are being advised to ensure they submit their documents on or before August 20, 2025, to their state DSS command. All submissions must be in hard copy, delivered to the DSS office in the applicant’s state of origin. “Please share with interested applicants,” one message circulating online reads.
However, as at the time of this report, there is still no official confirmation from the DSS regarding this recruitment exercise. Members of the public are being urged not to make any payments to individuals claiming to facilitate the process.
