Edo State Government, through the Edo State Forestry Commission, has received delegates from the Dangote Group at the Commission’s office in Benin City to discuss collaboration on reforestation reforms across the State.
The Chairman of the Commission, Hon. (Dr.) Valentine Asuen, expressed appreciation to the Dangote Group for its interest in working with the State on environmental sustainability. He stated, “The right time to plant trees is now, and we are always open for partnership.”
Hon. Asuen explained that the reforestation initiative would cover 200 hectares of land spread across the three senatorial districts of Edo State within a period of five years. According to him, the project is designed to restore green cover, protect biodiversity, and strengthen efforts against climate change. He emphasized that the State Government is committed to implementing policies that will improve forest conservation and encourage sustainable land use.
Speaking on behalf of the Dangote Group, the Head of Business Department, Mr. Tolu Adedayo, described the initiative as part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility. He noted that the reforestation drive would not only focus on planting trees but also contribute to supporting biodiversity and community land use. Adedayo added that the project is expected to create employment opportunities and provide education on environmental management.
He stressed that the company will plant trees across 200 hectares in five years, ensuring long-term benefits for both the environment and local communities.
