The Edo State Government, through its Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) system, has launched Betaawork, a digital job-matching platform designed to connect skilled professionals with verified job and service opportunities in the state.
The platform was unveiled during an official event at the John Odigie Oyegun Public Service Academy in Benin City, bringing together stakeholders in skills development, youth employment, and workforce training.
The Chairman of the Edo State Board for Technical and Vocational Education and Training, Barrister Mrs Onomen Briggs, said the launch represents a practical effort to bridge the long-standing gap between skills acquisition and employment. According to her, digital platforms such as Betaawork can help ensure that people who learn vocational skills are able to find real work opportunities.
“Platforms like Betaawork demonstrate how technology can effectively link training to employment by connecting skilled professionals with real opportunities,” Briggs said while addressing participants at the launch. She explained that strengthening the link between training and jobs is essential for building a productive workforce and ensuring that young people who invest time in learning skills are not left without employment.
She also noted that the initiative aligns with the SHINE Agenda of the Edo State Government, which focuses on human capital development, job creation, and economic empowerment. According to her, the platform will support the state’s broader goal of creating sustainable livelihoods by helping skilled workers connect directly with employers and clients who need their services.
The BTVET chairman also commended Edo State Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo for creating what she described as an enabling environment that allows private organisations to support skills development. She specifically praised Genius Hub, a certified Technical and Vocational Education and Training centre recognised by the National Skills Qualification framework, NABTEB and the Industrial Training Fund, for its role in training and empowering young people across the state.
Founder of Genius Hub, Ms Isimeme Whyte, thanked members of the organisation for their commitment in developing the Betaawork platform. She explained that the initiative was created to promote dignified employment by linking skilled professionals with credible opportunities and reliable clients. The keynote speaker, Challenge Fund for Youth Employment Country Lead in Nigeria, Amarachi Kalu, also emphasised the growing importance of digital platforms in expanding access to jobs. He noted that technology-driven systems can help widen employment pathways for young people and strengthen workforce participation.
The event also included demonstrations of the platform, stakeholder engagement sessions, onboarding of skilled professionals and partnership discussions.
