The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has called on Nigerians to take part in an online survey aimed at helping the agency study the causes, trends and common types of cybercrime in the country.

The survey forms part of a research effort by the commission to better understand the factors driving cyber-related offences, particularly economic and financial crimes committed through digital platforms. According to the EFCC, the study will provide data that can help the agency identify patterns, motivations and methods commonly used in cybercrime across Nigeria.

Information gathered from the survey will contribute to the development of a National Cybercrime Typology for Nigeria. This framework is expected to guide law enforcement agencies, policymakers and stakeholders in understanding how cybercrime evolves and how it can be tackled more effectively.

The EFCC explained that the findings will also support the commission’s preventive approach to fighting financial crimes. By understanding why young people become involved in cybercrime and how such activities are carried out, the commission aims to design better strategies that discourage illegal online activities while promoting lawful and productive opportunities in the digital space.

Members of the public are encouraged to complete the online questionnaire and share their perspectives.
