Ekiti State Government has concluded plans to launch its Yam Seed Support Programme, alongside the distribution of improved tree seedlings to farmers, in a move aimed at boosting agricultural productivity and strengthening food security.

The State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Mr Ebenezer Boluwade, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday in Ado-Ekiti. He stated that the flag-off ceremony would take place on Wednesday at the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) Office, ADP, Odo-Ado, Ado-Ekiti, by 10:00 a.m.

Boluwade further noted that the distribution of subsidised tree seedlings would follow at 11:00 a.m. at the Livestock Development Centre, Erifun, Ado-Ekiti, targeting oil palm and cocoa farmers.

According to him, “the yam seed support initiative is designed to provide improved yam seeds to farmers,” adding that the programme forms part of the government’s broader strategy to enhance agricultural productivity and ensure a steady supply of raw materials to yam processors.
