The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has taken a major step in advancing human capital development within the aviation sector. On July 22, 2025, the Authority officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with ATOM Training Services, a globally recognized aviation training institute based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

This move supports FAAN’s commitment to delivering on the six-point agenda set by the Managing Director/Chief Executive, Mrs. Olubunmi Oluwaseun Kuku. It also strengthens the Authority’s focus on institutional capacity building and operational efficiency, especially in safety-sensitive areas.

The MoU was signed in Dubai, where a delegation from FAAN, led by Dr. Luqman Emiola Olatunbosun, Director of Human Resources and Administration, met with Abdulla Almemari, General and Accountable Manager of ATOM.

During their visit, the FAAN team toured ATOM’s facilities and held key discussions with the institute’s leadership.

The partnership is expected to deliver internationally recognized training in air traffic management, emergency response, regulatory compliance, and safety oversight.

These are areas vital to airport management and aviation operations. With ATOM’s ICAO-compliant and industry-specific training modules, FAAN staff will receive top-tier professional development aligned with global best practices.

In her first address as MD/CE, Mrs. Kuku highlighted the importance of training and workforce development. “Every institution is only as powerful as the human resources managing it. Therefore, we will prioritise the enhancement of institutional and human capacity. Working with national and international bodies, we will promote Nigeria’s image and strengthen the network of FAAN,” she stated.

Since assuming office on December 18, 2023, Mrs. Kuku’s leadership has overseen the training and certification of more than 3,000 personnel. This reflects her administration’s clear dedication to staff competence, aviation safety, and regulatory standards.

The agreement with ATOM forms a critical part of FAAN’s Training Department’s long-term strategy. It aims to raise operational standards and improve the delivery of aviation services across Nigeria’s airports.

This collaboration is not only about meeting current industry needs but also positioning FAAN as a forward-looking authority committed to global aviation excellence.

The partnership will also help FAAN align more closely with international aviation requirements, supporting workforce capacity building while enhancing job skills, safety protocols, and service delivery standards in Nigeria’s aviation industry.
