The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (FMAFS) has announced plans to partner with the Amana Farmers and Grains Supplies Association of Nigeria (AFGSAN) to strengthen food sovereignty, drive economic diversification, and boost farmers’ income.
Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, said the government will create the right policies and provide access to capital to support Nigerian farmers. According to him, “the government is committed to providing an enabling environment, policies, and access to capital to ensure growth in the agricultural sector.” He noted that the involvement of the private sector is crucial, adding that AFGSAN’s collaboration would play a key role under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
As part of its strategy, the Ministry has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the National Identity Management Commission to establish an authentic farmer and farmland registry. The pilot project will begin in Nasarawa state, aimed at identifying genuine farmers and cultivated land.
The Minister appealed to AFGSAN to support the process by ensuring that only genuine farmers are registered so that government interventions can reach the right beneficiaries.
Speaking on the partnership, AFGSAN’s Chairman reaffirmed the association’s dedication to working with the Ministry on sustainable agriculture initiatives. He said the group is committed to collaborating with the government to promote food security, improve livelihoods, and strengthen Nigeria’s agricultural value chain.
