Some training centres participating in the Federal Government’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme have reportedly been dismissed, leaving trainees worried after months of training.

The development comes amid efforts to strengthen TVET, improve delivery and help participants move from skills acquisition to self-reliance and entrepreneurship.

The Federal Ministry of Education has stressed that centres must comply with programme requirements and maintain quality training. In February, it said biometric attendance was the sole approved method for validating attendance, with centre payments and trainees’ stipends tied to verified records. Continued non-compliance could lead to removal, while affected trainees could be redeployed to compliant centres.

Centre managers have also been urged to maintain accurate attendance records, documentation and practical training standards. The measures aim to protect public funds and ensure trainees receive support.

Reports of dismissals have raised questions about trainees who have already spent months in classes. The official TVET portal outlines programme pathways, but trainees should seek clarification through official channels, not social media claims.

What trainees should do

Trainees should confirm their centre’s status and redeployment arrangements with programme officials. If their centre has been removed, request guidance on transferring, continuing training and stipend eligibility. Complaints can be submitted through the official TVET support platform. Do not pay anyone promising a transfer or restored payments.
