The Honourable Commissioner of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Adamu Aliyu Kibiya, has received a high-profile delegation from the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction. The visit aimed to strengthen collaboration in the implementation of the Home Grown School Feeding Program in Kano State.
The delegation was led by Princess Aderemi F. Adebowale, the National Program Manager of the Home Grown School Feeding Program, who held an interactive meeting at the Conference Room of the State Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs. She was joined by Alhaji Hamza Baba, National Program Manager of the Government Enterprises and Empowerment Program (GEEP), along with representatives of the School Feeding Program, including Alhaji Umar Sani Marshal, Malam Jamilu Shayi, and Malam Zakari.
In her opening remarks, delivered via phone call, Princess Aderemi announced that the school feeding program would begin with Primary 1 to 3 pupils. She said, “The program will be launched in Kano State with a flag-off in six selected schools within the state.” She called on private sectors, Market People’s Association, and philanthropists to support the initiative by providing breakfast to pupils.
Princess Aderemi also noted the program’s earlier success in Jere, Kaduna, Taraba, and Abuja, which motivated its expansion to Kano State. The six selected schools are Dawakin Tofa Special Primary School, Normadic School Dawakin Tofa, Tumfafi Special Primary School, Kofar Nassarawa Model Primary School, Sumaila Special Primary School, and one additional school within the program’s pilot phase.
According to her, “The program aims to benefit 7,300 primary school children across the selected schools.” She mentioned that it would be supported by Dawanau International Grains Market, Alhaji Sabi’u Bako, and Bilkisu S. B, owner of Meena Event Center.
The flag-off ceremony is scheduled to take place at Sumaila Special Primary School, where pupils will receive school bags and writing materials. The feeding initiative will run for five days weekly, from Monday to Friday, providing a well-balanced diet to the participating pupils.
Princess Aderemi appealed to the State Government under the leadership of Governor Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf to continue supporting the program to ensure its sustainability.
Responding, Hon. Adamu Aliyu Kibiya expressed appreciation to the National Program Manager for selecting Kano State for the initiative. He stated, “We will prepare a comprehensive report for His Excellency, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, and ensure full cooperation from the State Government.”
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Hajiya Amina Yusuf ‘Yar Gaya, thanked the delegation and reaffirmed the Ministry’s readiness to collaborate for the program’s success.
