The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Kaspersky Global to strengthen Nigeria’s cybersecurity ecosystem. The agreement was formalised during GITEX Nigeria 2025 in Lagos, with Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, Director General of NITDA, and Mr. Chris Norton, General Manager, Africa at Kaspersky, representing both parties.
According to NITDA, the collaboration is aimed at boosting digital security, building cyber defence skills, and raising public awareness on online safety. Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi said the move aligns with government’s digital economy agenda, stating that “this partnership will enhance Nigeria’s capacity to detect and respond to threats, while creating opportunities for young people to develop careers in cybersecurity.”
Through this partnership, Kaspersky will support training programmes to build local cyber capacity, work with NITDA on awareness campaigns including its Cybersecurity Alphabet initiative, and engage in joint research and analysis to boost literacy on cyber defence nationwide.
Chris Norton, General Manager, Africa at Kaspersky, explained that the company is committed to sharing intelligence on threats and attacks affecting Nigerian citizens, government, and digital infrastructure. He noted, “our advisory support will guide NITDA in developing stronger frameworks and standards to protect the nation’s critical information infrastructure.”
The MoU reflects President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s priority of strengthening national security for peace and prosperity. Experts say the partnership marks a major milestone in Nigeria’s digital resilience journey, combining global expertise with national drive to secure the country’s digital future.
