9th May, 2025 — The Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction has taken a bold step toward job creation and poverty reduction by launching a new skill acquisition programme. In partnership with CIG MOTORS CO. LIMITED, the ministry recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to provide free automobile repairs and maintenance training for 365 Nigerian youths under the FG Skill to Wealth initiative.
This hands-on training will take place in six major states across Nigeria, representing all the geo-political zones. The training locations include Lagos State (South West), Enugu State (South East), Akwa Ibom State (South South), Plateau State (North Central), Adamawa State (North East), and Kaduna State (North West).
This strategic spread makes the programme accessible to a wide number of youths looking to gain technical skills and pursue high-income career paths.
The Honourable Minister, Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, signed the agreement on behalf of the Federal Government on 8th May, 2025, at the ministry’s headquarters in Abuja.
Chief Diana Chen, Chairman/CEO of CIG MOTORS, signed on behalf of the company. The collaboration is aimed at offering young Nigerians the opportunity to learn high-demand skills in auto repair, vehicle diagnostics, and automotive servicing.
The terms of the agreement state that the Ministry will handle logistics, coordination, and oversight of the programme to ensure its smooth execution. CIG MOTORS, as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), will provide expert training completely free of charge to the government and the participants. The MOU is valid for five years, with the possibility of renewal if both parties agree.
This partnership directly supports President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which focuses on youth empowerment, job creation, and poverty alleviation. With increasing demand for skilled auto mechanics and automobile technicians, this training is expected to boost employment opportunities in Nigeria’s growing automotive sector.
By learning practical skills in vehicle maintenance and repair, participants will be equipped to work in service centers, open their own workshops, or even explore opportunities in automotive engineering.
