The Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms Committee has announced the launch of the Students Tax Reform Challenge, a nationwide competition aimed at engaging young Nigerians on the country’s new tax reform laws. The committee said the initiative is designed to “raise awareness, promote tax education, and inspire constructive dialogue on Nigeria’s tax reform among young Nigerians.”
According to the committee, the challenge seeks to promote a balanced and fact-based analysis of tax issues while developing a network of informed youth ambassadors who will drive public engagement. It also aims to position the tax reform as a key tool for strengthening the social contract between citizens and government, emphasizing civic duty and accountability.
The competition is open to undergraduate students in Nigerian tertiary institutions, including universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education. It also includes graduates currently serving in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) or awaiting mobilisation. Eligible participants may enter individually or through tax clubs, students’ economics, accounting, or journalism associations in their institutions.
Entries can be submitted in English, Pidgin, Hausa, Igbo, or Yoruba to encourage inclusivity. Each participant is expected to create and submit published work such as articles, videos, podcasts, radio pieces, or social media posts related to the ongoing tax reform. The committee noted that “entries that are critical of the reform are welcome,” provided they remain fact-based and educative. Videos and podcasts should not exceed ten minutes, and local language entries must include English translations.
Winners will receive cash prizes of N5 million, N3 million, and N2 million for first, second, and third positions respectively. Ten top finalists from each geopolitical zone will also get consolation prizes, which include gadgets, internship or employment opportunities, and recognition as Tax Reform Youth Ambassadors.
Entries are open for publications from July 1 to December 31, 2025. Applications will officially open by the end of December 2025 on the portal fiscalreforms.ng.
