The Federal Government has disclosed that it is preparing support for beneficiaries under its Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme, with grants, loans, starter packs, and certificates set to be rolled out for Batch A trainees completing their programme.
This follows the latest routine meeting held between TVET officials and accredited training centres, where updates were provided on the graduation process for trainees who began their skills training in November.
The meeting confirms that Batch A participants are now approaching the end of their six-month training cycle, bringing the first phase of the programme closer to completion.
Batch A trainees to finish six-month training cycle
According to the update, all trainees who started their programme in November will complete their six-month vocational training by the end of the current cycle.
The TVET initiative was designed as a structured practical training programme aimed at equipping Nigerians with hands-on technical skills in selected trade areas considered important for employment and self-reliance.
The completion of the six-month cycle marks a key milestone, as thousands of trainees across the country prepare to move from training into certification and empowerment.
NBTE assessment to determine certificate issuance
Before certificates are issued, trainees will be required to sit for a final assessment.
This assessment will serve as the official evaluation stage before the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) issues certificates of completion to successful participants.
The NBTE certificate is expected to serve as formal recognition that a trainee has completed approved vocational training under the federal programme.
Without completing this final assessment, trainees may not qualify for certification.
Starter packs for qualified beneficiaries only
One of the major outcomes of the meeting is confirmation that starter packs will be given to trainees who complete their training successfully.
These starter packs are intended to help graduates begin work immediately in their chosen vocational fields after leaving the programme.
However, officials made it clear that only trainees with complete documentation and verified records will qualify to receive them.
Beneficiaries whose files remain incomplete may face delays until all outstanding documentation issues are resolved.
FG assures payment of outstanding stipends
TVET officials also assured trainees that all unpaid stipends owed during the training period will be settled.
Delayed stipend payments have been one of the main concerns raised by participants in recent months, especially among trainees depending on the monthly support to cover transportation and training-related costs.
The latest assurance suggests government is moving to clear all pending obligations before Batch A exits the programme.
Grants and loans to follow after graduation
Beyond starter packs and certificates, the Federal Government also confirmed that grants and loans will be made available after trainees complete their training.
The financial support is expected to help beneficiaries establish small businesses, buy equipment, and expand into self-employment after graduation.
This means the TVET programme is not ending at skills acquisition alone, but is extending into business startup support aimed at helping trainees become economically productive.
Why this matters
The rollout of grants, loans, starter packs, and certificates signals that the TVET programme is entering its empowerment phase.
For outgoing Batch A trainees, the next stage will determine how quickly they can move from training centres into real economic activity.
If implemented as planned, the support package could provide thousands of young Nigerians with both the tools and funding needed to start earning from their newly acquired skills.
Meanwhile, the Federal Ministry of Education has updated on its website that Applications re-open on the 13th of April.
