The Federal Government of Nigeria is set to launch the Diaspora BRIDGE Platform, a digital initiative designed to strengthen ties between Nigerian professionals abroad and local educational institutions.

According to a statement released by the Federal Ministry of Education on July 23, 2025, the platform will be officially unveiled on Monday, July 28, 2025, at 10:00 AM at the State House, Abuja.

The event will be presided over by Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima GCON and the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa CON. The platform, which stands for Bridging Research, Innovation, Development, and Global Engagement, is part of the Ministry’s broader effort to promote innovation and build institutional capacity in Nigeria’s education sector.

“The Diaspora BRIDGE is a strategic digital initiative to connect Nigerian professionals and academics in the diaspora with tertiary education and research institutions in the country,” the statement said.

It added that the tool will facilitate knowledge sharing, increase international research visibility, and create room for structured partnerships.

With high-level digital features such as academic matchmaking, virtual collaboration tools, and project tracking systems, the platform is expected to help researchers and educators within and outside Nigeria engage effectively.

“It also integrates seamlessly with existing government systems such as the TERAS platform, enhancing transparency, alignment, and measurable outcomes,” the Ministry explained.

Users of the platform will be able to register their profiles, showcase their expertise, and collaborate with Nigerian universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, and research centers. These local institutions, in turn, can highlight their specific academic and research needs, creating an environment for targeted partnerships.

The initiative supports the government’s interest in leveraging its global academic community to drive innovation, improve education quality, and strengthen research funding and development. Stakeholders in education, research, and policy are encouraged to participate in the launch and explore the potential for professional engagement and academic investment.

According to the Ministry, “Further details, including registration access, will be available on the platform’s official website: www.diaspora-bridge.ng following the launch.”

The event will be live streamed on selected television stations nationwide.
