Farmers in Gombe State have welcomed the introduction of a new digital agriculture technology following the successful field test of the Digital Precision Agricultural Extension (DPAE) platform. The test, conducted in the Sabon-Gari community of Yamaltu-Deba Local Government Area, was carried out by Precision for Development (PxD) in partnership with the Agro-climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) project.
The field test was led by Mohammed Kyari of PxD and Harrison Zephaniah, Agricultural Officer for Gombe State ACReSAL. It focused on assessing how effectively the platform works and how well farmers engage with it before the official launch. Early feedback has been positive, as many farmers praised the platform for being easy to use and highly relevant to their farming activities.
PxD, a global nonprofit organization with experience supporting over 18 million farmers worldwide, is developing the DPAE platform as a scalable, climate-smart solution for smallholder farmers in northern Nigeria. According to the team, the platform provides localized and timely agricultural advisories, including weather forecasts, pest alerts, and soil health insights, delivered through voice and text messages in local languages.
Harrison Zephaniah described the initiative as “a major step forward for farmers who need accurate information to improve productivity.” The successful test in Gombe is seen as an important milestone toward creating a more resilient and digitally driven agricultural sector in Nigeria.
