Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has expressed dissatisfaction with the slow progress of the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) programme in the state. He made this known when he received a delegation of the World Bank Team and National Project Team led by Mr. Shinsaku Nomura, Task Team Leader and Senior Economist, during a courtesy visit in Birnin Kebbi.
Governor Idris said he was not impressed with the current level of AGILE’s performance, stressing his administration’s dedication to improving education through transparency, accountability, and prudent financial management. He emphasized the need for the judicious use of funds, particularly loan resources, to achieve meaningful results in the education sector.
The governor condemned the secretive award of a N7.8 billion contract without the involvement of Kebbi-based companies, which led to the removal of some officials linked to the process. He reaffirmed his government’s commitment to ensuring fairness in all educational development projects.
In his response, Mr. Shinsaku Nomura expressed appreciation to the Kebbi State Government for the warm reception and cooperation. He urged the governor to expedite pending approval processes for payments, explaining that delays have affected project operations and preparations for the upcoming Implementation Support Mission in Abuja, which will involve all 18 participating states.
