The Federal Government has introduced a new initiative aimed at helping young Nigerians build careers in agriculture. The programme, known as the Youth in Agribusiness Land Trust Fund (YALTF), was launched through a partnership between the Federal Ministry of Youth Development and the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture.

The initiative is designed to support young people who want to enter agribusiness by addressing major barriers such as lack of land, limited skills, and difficulty accessing finance.

According to the government, the programme aims to train about six million Nigerian youths within the next three years.

Who Can Benefit from the Programme

The initiative targets young Nigerians who have shown interest in agriculture. More than six million youths already listed in the ministry’s database are expected to benefit from training and enterprise development opportunities.

These youths will be equipped with practical agricultural skills and supported to establish agribusiness ventures.

Possible Steps Youths May Take to Apply

Although the full application portal has not yet been released, the announcement suggests that interested youths may need to follow these steps once registration begins:

Monitor official announcements

Interested applicants should watch for updates from the Federal Ministry of Youth Development regarding the official registration portal.

Register in the youth database

The programme will prioritise young Nigerians already listed in the ministry’s database who indicated interest in agriculture.

Complete programme registration

Once applications open, youths may need to fill an online registration form and provide personal information and details about their agricultural interests.

Training and Opportunities

Under the programme, land resources within 42 National Youth Development Centres across Nigeria will be used to support youth participation in agriculture.

These centres will be developed into agribusiness innovation hubs where participants can receive practical training, start agricultural businesses, and connect with markets and investors.

Through the support of the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture, participants will also gain access to agribusiness incubation, modern farming technologies, and opportunities for enterprise growth.

The initiative is expected to create hundreds of thousands of youth-led agribusiness enterprises while strengthening food security and rural economies across the country.
