The Industrial Training Fund (ITF) has conducted examinations for trainees of its Skill-Up Artisans (SUPA) programme to equip Nigerian artisans with internationally recognised certifications. The initiative aims to improve job opportunities and ensure artisans meet global standards.
During an on-the-spot check at examination centres across the country on Wednesday, the Director-General and Chief Executive of ITF, Dr. Afiz Oluwatoyin Ogun, highlighted the importance of credible examinations. He explained that the tests were administered by the Chartered Institute of Project Management of Nigeria (CIPMN).
“When you give training without examination, you have not done anything. And when you give an examination that is not quality enough, you cannot achieve the desired impact. This is why we are committed to credible testing and certification for our trainees,” Dr. Ogun said.
He stated that about 100,000 trainees nationwide are part of the exercise, with 30,000 artisans sitting for the first round of examinations in project management. According to him, interpreters were provided at several centres to assist participants facing language barriers.
Dr. Ogun also revealed that the ITF has established 30 training centres across Nigeria, with plans to create more facilities to meet the increasing demand. He stressed that internationally recognised certifications would help reduce unemployment and address socio-economic issues by equipping artisans with globally competitive skills.
The DG added that the programme would strengthen the workforce by preparing Nigerian artisans to work on local and international projects, boosting the nation’s economic growth.
