The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has released detailed guidelines for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination registration process, along with common issues candidates may face. The announcement was shared on the official JAMB X handle on Sunday and seeks to help applicants prepare ahead of registration and avoid delays.
According to the advisory, the first step involves profile code generation. Candidates are advised to ensure their details on NIMC and other documents such as O’Level and A-Level results match. The Board explained that applicants must send NIN followed by a space and their 11 digit NIN number to 55019 or 66019. It cited an example stating, “NIN 00000011111 to 55019/66019.” JAMB added that once a profile code is created, it cannot be changed and the biodata linked to it is automatically retrieved from NIMC.
Key registration procedures
After generating the profile code, candidates are expected to proceed to the nearest JAMB office or an approved Computer-Based Test Centre to begin registration. The Board further stressed that applicants must purchase their e PIN only from authorised channels such as banks, online platforms or designated vendors at registration centres.
JAMB also highlighted the importance of using the correct registration template and cross checking entries before final submission. Candidates are urged to ensure their information is accurate at the point of entry.
Important warnings to candidates
The Board cautioned candidates to make all necessary corrections with NIMC early and confirm that such changes reflect on the portal before registering. It stated that unique identifiers such as GSM numbers and email addresses cannot be changed or shared, urging applicants to ensure they work properly ahead of registration.
The statement also noted that candidates encountering biometric issues should visit the nearest JAMB office, adding, “Do not allow any CBT Centre register you forcefully.” JAMB advised that a dual screen should be used during registration and that applicants must confirm their passport and biometrics are properly captured.
Common challenges and solutions
JAMB listed frequent profile code problems. For “Record not found,” the solution is to visit a NIMC office for validation. Where a wrong parameter is detected, candidates were told to resend the correct command. The Board also explained that if a NIN has already been linked to a GSM number, the applicant must retrieve that number to recover the profile code. In situations where NIMC cannot verify the NIN at the moment, candidates are advised to wait and retry later.
JAMB also confirmed that the 2026 UTME registration and sale of forms will run from Friday, January 31, 2026, to Saturday, March 8, 2026. The board urged candidates to complete their registration early, verify all personal details, and strictly follow the official guidelines to avoid common mistakes that could delay or invalidate their applications.
