Jigawa State Executive Council, under the chairmanship of His Excellency, the Executive Governor, Malam Umar A. Namadi FCA, has approved a major step in advancing renewable energy across key public institutions. The approval was part of the resolutions reached during the Council meeting held on Monday, 22nd September 2025.
According to the resolution, the Council approved the award of contract for the technical audit, critical assessments, and planning of rooftop solar installations under the State Interventions Solar Solution (SI-SS) Programme. The contract is valued at ₦733,122,187.23.
The SI-SS Programme is designed to expand solar electrification to critical sectors such as education, healthcare, and other essential public facilities across Nigeria. The technical audit and planning will provide what the Council described as “a comprehensive assessment of energy needs, infrastructure suitability, and implementation frameworks for the deployment of rooftop solar systems in selected schools, healthcare centres, and other vital public institutions across Jigawa State.”
In line with the state’s broader development vision, Governor Namadi stressed that the decision reflects his administration’s commitment to sustainable energy solutions and climate-resilient infrastructure. He explained that it also forms part of the 12-point agenda targeted at strengthening access to reliable power for socio-economic development.
“This project reflects our administration’s drive to ensure improved service delivery in essential sectors such as healthcare and education,” the Governor said, adding that renewable energy remains a vital tool for creating resilient communities.
The Council emphasised that the Jigawa State Government remains committed to leveraging innovative energy solutions to improve the quality of life of its citizens. By promoting cost-effective and clean energy alternatives, the government aims to reduce dependence on the national grid while supporting long-term development goals.
